Why???? Spending time doing a painting, just to paint over it again, what is the purpose?
There are valuable lessons learned through this process.
1. Detachment. Concern over the results and performance completely disappear and we are free to paint, play, test out new strokes and colour combinations without fear holding us back. Control over the outcome gets washed away and we can engage in the process and a beautiful flow takes over. It is in that flow that creativity lives.
2. Acceptance of change. Once you are able to paint over and change your painting on the canvas, your brain learns that it is able to handle it, and changes happen. Not only on the canvas! Created in your brain, are new neuro-pathways relating to change, and making changes in your life becomes easier.
3. Practice. Can’t get around this one, the more you paint, the better you get at it! This is such a fun way to spend time painting on a canvas and getting lots of practice in. Just like running a race, you have to train for it, get your body and your mind conditioned and prepared.
4. Texture. Creating many layers gives a beautiful texture and a painting emerges that could never happen in only one layer. Much like life, it is the layers that create beauty and richness.
Below is just a glimpse into pieces of the layers in this Mini Painting Marathon for India. Remember… all proceeds go towards my upcoming mission trip to Chandigarh, India. See the events tab for more details and to register.
